為慶賀2017年配樂大師約翰・ 威廉斯85歲生日，以及他與大導演史蒂芬・史匹柏合作逾43年的情誼，SONY唱片公司特別推出這一套3CD+DVD的「終極精選」。專輯收錄兩位大師合作的眾多作品，除了以往發行過的錄音，還包含了75分鐘重新編曲演奏的嶄新錄音。而在附錄的DVD中，更收錄了兩人於2016年十月間的對話影像。
專輯將約翰・威廉斯歷年來創作的重要電影配樂主題重新整理編曲，並由他親自指揮與他長期合作的戰友—波士頓大眾管弦樂團，演奏這些值得珍藏的不朽名曲。對於影迷來說，這樣的曲目內容當然是列在必需收藏的名單之列，對樂迷而言，本輯又是音樂性與娛樂性兼備的超級強片，而對於音響迷而言，絕對發燒的音樂音效，又提供了一張足以用為音響測試的名片。
專輯收錄了「外星人」、「侏羅紀公園」、「辛德勒的名單」、「虎克船長」、「一九四一年」、「大白鯊」、「太陽帝國」、「第三類接觸」、「法櫃奇兵」等多部電影的配樂，而這些均為史蒂芬・史匹柏與約翰・威廉斯合作的心血結晶。這些電影早已經是家喻戶曉的名片，原先的配樂早已經是大眾了然於心的作品，重新加以編曲之後，配合波士頓大眾管弦樂團與洛杉磯錄音藝術管弦樂團精彩生動的演出，呈現不同於電影「配樂」之附屬地位，成為可以獨立欣賞的作品。
配樂大師約翰・威廉斯創作過百部電影的配樂，得過五座奧斯卡金像獎，其中四次是最佳原著音樂獎，另外還獲得奧斯卡金像獎提名五次，而與史蒂芬・史匹柏合作的電影則有十餘部，而兩位大師的合作堪稱是電影有史以來最偉大的組合。
