1977年當英美樂壇相繼爆發有史以來最決裂的龐客運動時，出身起於美國德州的Meat Loaf卻與鋼琴手兼作曲人Jim Steinman合力出版了那年最令人驚奇的搖滾巨作《Bat Out Of Hell》而震驚當時的搖滾樂界，並同時也成為那年最受廣大樂迷歡迎的年度專輯之一。 而在舞台上恍若龐然大物，體重超過三百磅的Meat Loaf原名本叫Marvin Lee Aday，自小便是因身材的緣故而經常被暱稱之為「肉餅」。但他自幼即浸淫在福音歌曲的影響卻讓他後來在青年時期就組了兩個隊伍而有機會參與當時極為轟動的搖滾歌舞劇「Hair」的演出。之後，在接連幾個百老匯的製作參與機會後，他與寫詞好手Jim Steinman終於在加州一偶然機會下相識而開始了另一個改變他們一生的搖滾演唱事業。
